For as long as I can remember, I have always had a love for animals.
Since the age of 9 months I have been going with my family to a wonderful commercial farm called Easton Farm Park in Suffolk, England. It has always had a special place in my heart as this is where my passion for animals originated. Once I reached an age where I was no longer a liability to the farm and the farm hands, I began to help out. My tasks consisted of shoveling manure and cleaning out stables and pens, collecting eggs from the poultry pen and walking the ponies back and fourth from the fields to their stables and visa versa.
We stayed on the farm in a huge field in our holiday caravan. Occasionally, my dad would snore so loudly that I found myself sleeping in the awning attached to the caravan. However, it was all part of the camping experience.
When I hit the age of 16, every year in the summer months my family would all go to the farm and I would work everyday and used it towards work experience for my school studies. As I was now officially a worker I began to work with the pigs, holding a bucket of food and being chased by ravenous pig in the game which is known by all visitors that go to Easton Farm Park as, Pig racing. I was also honoured enough to work with the biggest horses in the country called Suffolk Punch horses. Suffolk Punch horses are beautiful horses only found in Suffolk and were used to plough the land before heavy machinery was created. They are built with huge muscles and roughly weigh a ton each. They can grow between 17-20 hands high. Needless to say, they are HUGE and I got to work with these magnificent creatures.
Once I turned 17, the work available for me on the farm had no end. As it is a commercial farm and therefore, has a large number of visitors on a daily basis over the summer period. The farm has numerous activities for young children and people of all ages. There is something for everyone to do.
I became in charge of children activities from driving the quad bike known as the ‘Barrel Train’ to Shetland Pony rides. I loved my summers and I never felt happier then when I was working at Easton Farm Park. My year was dedicated to going to the farm in the summer.
It is a beautiful place which made me who I am today. I would recommend it to everyone as there are beautiful nature walks and acres of land as well as an assortment of animals.
