How is Quality Content Created?

The million dollar question! It seems everyone has an opinion - but I think mine counts, as I do it everyday.

It's not as complex as most people would have you believe. However, there are quite a few factors to consider.

I have a method that I generally follow, which involves all of the following elements - in differing amounts - depending on the subject, the audience, the site...

Audience - your article needs to speak to your reader. It should appear to be specifically tailored to their needs. Spoken how they speak, written how they think and contain what they seek.

Web site purpose - the audience and web site purpose, go hand-in-hand. Everything I write is written with your web site's purpose in mind. The tone and method of writing has to suit your site's goals and audience expectations.

Accurate - article content must be totally truthful and accurate. If people find you are not being up front and truthful, word of mouth alone could very well doom your site.

Research/Comprehensive – these two elements are inseparable to me. I do thorough research, this inevitably leads to the writing of a comprehensive article.

Relevant - all site visitors come to your site for a specific purpose; to learn, to laugh, to be entertained and a myriad of other reasons. Your content needs to immediately contain what they seek or you will quickly lose your visitor.

Knowledgeable
- your content has to convey a sense of “topic expert” to your reader. If you do not appear knowledgeable in your content, you will not receive organic links, people will not come back and you will not receive visitors from word-of-mouth.

Keep it simple
- no need to use overly complicated words or grammar for most web sites. People do not want to keep referring to a dictionary or thesaurus when reading your content. Speaking in plain, easy to understand language is best. If your audience is consistently more intellectual, with a high degree of education, then this will be accounted for in the writing.

Timely
- Content has to be timely and up to date. For blogs it's usually important to cover the latest "buzz" on the Internet. Outdated content will probably not be read and if it is, it will not carry as much weight in the reader's mind. It depends on the topic but generally within six months is best.

Action/Influence – many articles need to be written in a way that influences your readers behavior and initiates an action. There are a variety of techniques that I employ to achieve this with great results.

Thoughtful – I write thoughtful and thought provoking articles. I try to take an angle that is not generally covered elsewhere. Presenting new ideas and musings.
